Writing good prompts for the AI process description

Modified on Thu, 2 Apr at 4:21 PM

A well-crafted prompt is crucial for generating high-quality AI results. Large Language Models are sensitive to wording – small changes in formulation can lead to significant differences in output. This article shows you how to structure and optimize your prompts.

Anatomy of a Prompt

A complete prompt consists of four elements:

  1. Instruction (provided by Q.wiki) – what the AI should do
  2. Input data (provided by you) – the raw data or topic
  3. Context (provided by you) – background and framework information
  4. Output indicator (provided by Q.wiki) – the format of the result

Q.wiki already handles the instruction and output indicator. As a user, you focus on the input data and context.

Five Quality Criteria for Better Prompts

Structured

Break large and complex tasks into subtasks. Describe each subtask in its own paragraph – this makes it easier for the AI to follow the logic.

Specific

The more descriptive and detailed your prompt, the better the results. Use concrete examples and specifications.

Relevant

Too many unnecessary details can be counterproductive. Remember that the AI processes information at the beginning and end of a prompt most effectively – similar to how human attention works. Focus on what matters.

Human-Like

AI models are trained by humans and understand human-friendly wording better. Describe the process as if you were explaining it to a new employee. Use natural, understandable language.

Iterative

Prompt engineering is often an interactive process. If you're unsatisfied with a result, you can discard the page, adjust the prompt, and generate a new version. Experimentation helps you find the optimal prompt.

Control Creativity Through Prompt Scope

You can deliberately control how creatively the AI responds by adjusting the detail level of your prompt:

  • Detailed prompt → the result stays close to your input
  • Shorter prompt → the AI has more room for creativity
Tip: Experiment with length and detail to find the right balance between structure and creativity for your needs.

Page Types and Their Requirements

Q.wiki supports four different page types with their own templates and output indicators. Each type has specific requirements for your prompt:

  • Work instruction: 8–14 steps
  • Concept: Explanation of principles and relationships
  • Process: Workflow with decision points
  • Guideline: Rules and requirements
Important: Check which page type fits your topic before writing the prompt. The right type leads to better results.
