Update Office files via the WebDAV protocol

Modified on Thu, 2 Apr at 4:19 PM

Important: To update Office files via WebDAV, you need to configure some Windows security settings. These are explained in the sections below – your IT department can help you with this.

Edit Office files on file pages

  1. Navigate to the change proposal of the file page.
  2. Select Edit file with Office.
    • If this option is not available, you either don't have edit permissions for the page, or the WebDAV security settings (see below) have not yet been configured.
  3. Edit the file and save your changes. This will update the file in Q.wiki and create a new version.
  4. Once the change proposal is approved, the updated file will be transferred to the published version.

Configure WebDAV

To edit Office documents directly from Q.wiki, two requirements must be met:

  • You are using Office 2010 or newer.
  • Q.wiki must be registered on your local computer as a trusted website in the "Local Intranet" security zone.

There are two ways to add Q.wiki to the security zone:

  • Centrally by IT: Deploying a group policy across all computers (only possible through your IT department).
  • Locally on your computer: Manually adding Q.wiki to the security zone.

Deploying a group policy (through IT)

  1. Open the Group Policy Editor.
  2. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer > Internet Control Panel > Security Page > Site to Zone Assignment List.
  3. Enable zone assignment and add Q.wiki.
  4. Enter the Q.wiki address and set the value to 1 (for Local Intranet).
  5. Confirm your changes.

Add Q.wiki locally to the security zone

  1. Open Internet Options (e.g., via Windows search).
  2. Switch to the Security tab and check if the message Some settings are managed by your system administrator appears at the bottom.
    • If yes: Your IT manages the settings centrally via group policies. Contact your IT department to have Q.wiki added.
    • If no: Continue with step 3.
  3. Select Local Intranet and then Sites.

Internet Options – Security tab with Local Intranet

  1. Uncheck Automatically detect intranet network and select Advanced.

Internet Options – Add sites

  1. Enter your Q.wiki URL in the format customername.qwikinow.de and add it to the Local Intranet zone.
  2. Confirm your changes.
