Use, create and modify metadata

Overview

Metadata is additional information that you maintain independently of the page content. Typical metadata includes the page type, page name, and page owner of a page.

You'll find the metadata in both read and edit mode of a page at the bottom of the page.

Metadata at the bottom of the page in edit mode

Metadata is maintained systematically – for example via mandatory fields – and can be queried and searched just as systematically. You can use metadata to filter search results or to supplement the page header.

Metadata Structure

To map custom categorizations or information, you can add metadata or modify existing metadata.

Configuring a metadata field requires three elements:

  • Type
  • Properties
  • Entries (if applicable)

Available Field Types

The following field types are available to you:

  • Text – Free text entry
  • User – Selection of exactly one user from Q.wiki with auto-completion
  • Multiple Users – Selection of one or more users from Q.wiki with auto-completion
  • Selection from List – Selection of one value from a defined list (you define the options)
  • Multiple Selection from List – Selection of one or more values from a defined list (you define the options)
  • Multiple Selection plus Tagging – Selection of one or more values from existing tags. If the desired tag doesn't exist yet, you can create it directly
